We have arrived at the crowning moment of the season, across the continent the champagne is prepared to be popped, fans are readying their plans for parading the streets and trophies are getting engraved. Some scripts have followed plans that were set at the start of the season, with the usual suspects winning their league. However, not all followed the predictions. Let's round up some of European football's shocking and most surprising underdogs champions...
Aarhus - Denmark 🇩🇰

Aarhus ended their 40-year title drought to clinch the Danish Superliga, joining the likes of Viking FK in Norway and Mjällby in Sweden who also made the headlines last year. AGF have been rock solid at the back, conceding only 30 goals this season - with veteran Jesper Hansen (41) in goal, the story has a fairytale ending. It is the club's first trophy since 1996, when AGF won the Danish Cup, for the team from Denmark's second most populous city.
FC Thun - Switzerland 🇨🇭

Thun, hailing from a town of just 45,000 people, were predicted to struggle in the Swiss Super League this season. They had never won the Swiss title and many expected them to go straight back down. Instead, Mauro Lustrinelli’s team embarked on an incredible run that deserves to be ranked alongside some of soccer’s great underdog tales, taking advantage of other big teams like Basel and Young Boys faltering, one of the greatest championship stories ever is now in folklore.
Levski Sofia 🇧🇬

Levski Sofia clinched Bulgaria's league title on Saturday, beating CSKA 1948 1-0 at home to secure the club's 27th championship and end Ludogorets Razgrad's 14-year reign atop the First League. Levski won their first league crown in 17 years and Spanish coach Julio Velazquez's side sealed the title with matches to spare, setting off celebrations for one of Bulgaria's most famous clubs.
Górnik Zabrze 🇵🇱

It might not have been a league title, but a special mention for Górnik Zabrze, who finally lifted the Polish Cup after a staggering 54-year drought. The victory, saw the team overcome Raków Częstochowa in a clinical 2-0 performance at the PGE Narodowy stadium. However, the story of the night was not just the trophy, but the man holding it. At 41 years old, legendary German forward Lukas Podolski was seen weeping on the pitch as his lifelong dream of bringing silverware to his hometown club finally became a reality.
