🔴🌑🇮🇹 Mysterious Milan: Our 3 Points mystery football tour diary

This trip had been talked about for a long time. After a successful trip to Euro 2024 last summer, we decided it was time to explore European football in all its glory. But the problem is, where do we go? It was hard to even begin planning. We tried to pick a city we all had not been to previously, then we filtered out any teams we’ve been to see or didn’t like. We ended up getting nowhere. That’s where 3 Points came in… we were delighted to have the decision taken out of our hands and opted for the Division 1 3 Points package, which guaranteed us a European giant. The suspense began!

✈️ Destination, Milan

We decided to really lean Into the mystery element and unveiled the destination at Gatwick Airport over a Guinness or two. 3 Points were great and printed us off boarding passes hiding the destination, so we could get through security, settle down and spill the surprise. We had a bet about where we could be going Lisbon? Porto? Madrid? Milan?

Hats off. It was Milan and the iconic San Siro.Truly one of the great venues in football, we were absolutely buzzing! With the new club scarves in our cases and the Club & City guide created for us by 3 Points read, we hopped on the plane and headed into our European football adventure.

🇮🇹 Magic Milan

Ciao Milano! The instructions from airport to our accommodation were seamless and the apartment 3 Points had booked for us was spectacular, a great central location near the iconic Duomo and plenty of space for us to chill out and chunter about tactics ahead of the game…

Saturday arrived, match day was here. After a cracking first evening exploring the local bars and Italian food, we were so excited to get to the stadium.

Our mystery match was Milan v Como, which is sort of a local Derby according to geography, with Como just being up the road an hour or so. Our Club Guide recommended a local pub to settle the pre-match nerves, Old Tenconi Pub. It didn’t disappoint. We chatted to locals who follow Milan every week, to other foreigners attending their first game. We also got to see the Como team bus arrive as just across the road was the San Siro.

🏟️ Stadio San Siro

It is hard to put into words the feeling you get when you first lay eyes on the San Siro. You’ve seen it so many time in the pictures, the four iconic towers, large red roof perched aloft and the spiralling staircases. I was left speechless and in truth, shed a small tear. It was unbelievable that we were at such a historical, influential and visibly impressive stadium in world football. We finished our pre-match drinks and snacks and walked to the ground. Our seats were fantastic, behind one of the goals in the second tier and a brilliant view of the pitch.

Today’s atmosphere was slightly different…in the sense that the Milan ultras Curva Sud Milano decided to protest against the ownership and recent run of poor results in both domestic and European competitions by not taking their seats for the first 15 minutes. They were in the ground, you could see silhouettes in the gangways, refusing to enter. As the clock struck 15 and Milan had been opening with some early pressure 10,000 fans poured through the gangways and entered their seats, lighting red flares and singing Forza Milano the top of their voice. I’ve never seen anything like it, check it out below...👇

The atmosphere was lifted to incredible levels. Time for the players to do their side of the deal. Cesc Fabregas’ Como side were impressive and they took the lead as the initiative with the tension rising in San Siro. Lucas De Cunha gave the Lariani the lead with an accurate finish into the bottom corner, converting an assist from Nico Paz. It was the French midfielder’s third goal this season to give the visitors the lead. Our seats were also situated below the Como fans who were nestled high in the Gods, and to be fair, their noise was impressive. Half time came, 1-0 to Como. What did Milan have up their sleeve?

I’ll always take having a beer in my seat at the football as a huge treat, we sank a half time pint and waited for the teams to return to the hallowed turf.

3 Points and 4 Pints! 🍻
3 Points and 4 Pints! 🍻

Whatever the manager had said at half-time worked had worked, very quickly Milan were level thanks to a lovely strike by Tijani Reijnders. The atmosphere changed in an instant, with the flares growing even redder in the ferocious atmosphere. There was only one winner from here and Milan made it count with 15 minutes to go, player of the season Christian Pulisic put the Rossoneri in the in front. Forza!! We celebrated with local fans hugging and chanting, the sound was deafening. Milan held on and at the end, our fellow Englishman Dele Ali received his marching orders alongside his boss Fabregas.

2 goals, 2 red cards and 3 vital points for Milan. It was a great game, won in true Italian style.

After the match we were treated to a Milan inspired dinner at the famous (insert restaurant name). This was a favourite for Milan players past and present and the owner put us in the presidential booth to enjoy a fantastic Italian feast. Signed shirts and bottles of wine gifted adorn the walls, with Milan players from over the years thanking the restaurant. It really felt like we were a VIP Division 1 Squad customers at this moment, what a day!

Day 2: Lake Como 🚤

On our second day in Milan, the 3 Points Top Tip in our City Guide recommended a visit to Lake Como. The theme of the weekend really was Milan and Como… We managed to hire a private speedboat and got a tour around the stunning lake and it surroundings. We even saw a glimpse of the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, Como’s ground, nestled into the hills of the lake. The train was only an hour from Milan and it rounded the weekend with a bit of sophistication and style. I’d throughly recommend it too!

We checked out Monday morning and headed from Milan Malpensa, rich with magic moments from Milan. I wasn’t sure what to expect from our mystery football tour but it delivered over and above. It was such a unique way to discover a new club a new league, and I’m sure the four of us will continue to be Milano’s for the foreseeable future.

Who knows maybe we’ll visit again, or maybe we will have 3 Points pick a new destination for us…
